Ricciardo relishing Vettel challenge

Thursday 21-November-2013 14:07

Daniel Ricciardo is "excited" to take on the challenge that is Sebastian Vettel when the duo team up at Red Bull next season.

The Australian driver will make the move up next season to Red Bull's senior having spent over two years with junior outfit Toro Rosso.

And while Ricciardo was learning his trade at Toro Rosso, Vettel was conquering the world and setting record with Red Bull.

Last season the four-time World Champion set a new record for the most successive victories in one season with eight on the trot.

But rather be daunted by his new team-mate's success, Ricciardo is relishing the challenge.

"It makes me more excited," he said. "If I can mix it up with him it makes me look better, so the more success he has is nice to see.

"At least I know I'm going to get the best Seb possible and I will know the truth if I'm as good as some people say I am and I think I am. That's going to be a nice assessment."

The 24-year-old added that he will enter the partnership without any preconseptions given Vettel's relationship with current team-mate Mark Webber.

"He [Webber] has been speaking to me in bits. I spoke to him a little bit and I told him, in the most respectful way possible, that I'm happy to go into it myself and try and work things out for myself.

"We're in different times of our career and I'm happy to go into it with an open mind. He basically said 'go out and have fun'.

"I've earned the seat so he said just keep doing what I'm doing, don't get overwhelmed by it all and kick some arse, basically."
