'Bottas has galvanised Williams'

Claire Williams believes Valtteri Bottas has done a "spectacular job" this season despite having yet to get off the mark.

Having joined Williams last season as their official test driver, Bottas made the step up to race driver in 2013, however, it's been a difficult debut season for the Finn.

The team's FW35 has proven to be uncompetitive, resulting in Bottas and his team-mate Pastor Maldonado struggling to score points. But while Maldonado broke his duck in Hungary, Bottas has yet to get off the mark.

His lack of points, though, have not detracted from his performances, according to his deputy team principal.

"He has done a spectacular job for the team this year," Williams told Autosport.

"The thing I have been most impressed with is his maturity and I suppose maybe, because of his nationality, his calmness comes out in situations where he could be completely the opposite."

Williams added that Bottas has "done his bit" to push the team forward as they bid to turn their fortunes around.

"He is just fantastic and engenders a respect in the team because of the way he operates," she added.

"He works really hard to make sure he does his bit to help drive this team forward.

"He's the all-round package, he's everything you want him to be in the cockpit, gives the feedback that the engineers need to develop the car, is great from a marketing and media perspective and is a great leader.

"You want someone who, when the chips are down, steps out of the cockpit and helps to galvanise the team."
