'Gutierrez will push Hulkenberg'

Sauber are confident Esteban Gutierrez will start pushing Nico Hulkenberg now that he's found his rhythm in Formula One.

Gutierrez is one of five rookies on this year's grid and like his fellow newcomers has yet to score a World Championship point.

That, though, is not entirely his fault as Sauber have struggled this season, failing to find the pace that put them on the podium four times in 2012.

Instead the team has been fighting for scraps, both in qualifying and the grands prix with the much-lauded Hulkenberg only getting into the double digets for the first time in Monza.

"We have been very impressed with Esteban and so has Nico," head of trackside engineering Tom McCullough told Autosport.

"Sometimes it looks as if Nico beats him easily looking at the qualifying statistics, but it isn't.

"He works hard and is seeing the rewards now after the start of the year was difficult for him with a car not as competitive as we wanted it to be.

"That makes it harder for a rookie because you are the one getting knocked out in Q1.

"But he's going to start pushing Nico and he is going to start outqualifying him because he is that close."
