Giedo chasing new Caterham deal

Monday 02-December-2013 06:36

Giedo van der Garde believes he's show he's a "team leader" and deserves a second season in Formula One.

The 28-year-old, who secured a best result of P14 at the Hungarian Grand Prix, came to the fore in the latter of this season, edging the Caterham intra-team battle.

Out-qualifying his team-mate in six of the last nine races, the duo were even when it came to race results, taking four apiece

Van der Garde is now hoping for a second season with Caterham, confident he's proven himself.

"I think I've shown that I'm a team leader, especially in the second half of the year," he told GPUpdate.net.

"The team is very satisfied with me and the progress that I've made.

"We shall see - we are talking with them as well. My management is quite busy now and hopefully we can have some good news soon."

Asked about Caterham's potential for next season, the Dutchman believes his team can move up the grid although bookmakers Paddy Power don't even consider them for the title fight.

"I know they are very busy with next year's car and I've heard the steps they are making are quite big.

"But we don't know what the other teams are doing. We will find out at the first tests next year."
