Button: Kevin brings a fresh view

Jenson Button insists he's not here to "nurture" Kevin Magnussen but rather wants to work together with his rookie team-mate.

This season 34-year-old Button will partner 21-year-old Danish rookie Magnussen at McLaren in what promises to be an interesting mix.

But rather than be hinder by having a rookie on the payroll, Button is confident Magnussen can help McLaren work their way through the new regulations, which include 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 engines and fuel limits.

"I won't be nurturing him," the Brit told The Mirror, "but I will listen a lot to what he says.

"We will be working with all the other Mercedes teams hopefully because there's just so much that can go wrong with how the power unit is set up. It's all very complex.

"There's a lot we all need to learn to be ready for the first race and hopefully there will be a lot of sharing between teams."

And Button believes his new team-mate, who won last year's Formula Renault 3.5 Series, will be an asset to McLaren.

"He did well in World Series, which was what you need to do to get to F1, but all of us have done well to get here," he added.

"His F1 experience is limited but I know that the team has been very impressed with his speed and the exciting bit for me is his feedback. We have six days each before the first race and I need his feedback to be on it from the word go.

"He seems like an intelligent guy and he will learn quickly, and with the cars being so different this year perhaps it'll be nice to have a fresh view."
