Lauda: Ross remains in charge

Tuesday 26-February-2013 09:33

Nikki Lauda has reiterated that Ross Brawn remains in control of Mercedes, but the team are refusing to comment on Paddy Lowe's impending move there.

Brawn's future at the Brackley outfit was thrown into doubt at the start of the year after Lauda took over as non-executive chairman and Toto Wolff was appointed motorsport boss. More fuel was added to the flames when it was reported that McLaren technical director Lowe is on his way to Mercedes.

Although McLaren have confirmed that Lowe will leave Woking at the end of the year, Mercedes are refusing to comment on speculation that he will be joining them.

"I cannot confirm anything yet," Lauda told Sky Sports News.

"I was surprised that McLaren issued the statement today, but I cannot make any comment for the time being."

As for who is in charge at Mercedes, Lauda insists Brawn is still running the show.

"What I want to make clear is that Ross is not even discussed," he told Reuters.

"If Paddy Lowe is coming or not, I cannot tell you now...but there is peace. Ross is in his position and will stay in his position. Everything is under control."
