Rosberg: That wasn't fun

Nico Rosberg admits it wasn't "nice" finishing ninth in Bahrain especially after starting the grand prix from pole position.

The Mercedes driver surprised many - including himself - on Saturday when he secured pole position at the Sakhir circuit ahead of Sebastian Vettel.

And although he tried extremely hard to maintain that position on Sunday, Rosberg soon found himself dropping down the order and had lost the lead by lap three.

On an afternoon where many drivers overtook him, he eventually finished in ninth place.

"A tough day for me," Rosberg conceded. "As nice as it was to start from pole this afternoon, it was just as hard to finish in ninth place.

"I didn't feel comfortable in the car today and it wasn't much fun out there really."

The German was one of several drivers who opted for a four-stop strategy as their Pirellis wore too quickly to keep up the pace.

"We switched to a four-stop strategy at the end of my third stint but it wasn't enough.

"We were using the rear tyres too much and at the end, I was really struggling and wasn't able to push hard enough."

He added: "There is a lot of work ahead and we need to focus on why our race performance isn't matching the pace that we can show in qualifying.

"Hopefully we can make some steps here before the European season starts."
