'Di Resta could be a F1 Champ'

Force India's Bob Fernley believes Paul Di Resta could "certainly" win a World title if given a winning car.

After last year's disappointing run-in to the chequered flag, which saw di Resta score just two points in six races, the Scot has bounced back this season.

Scoring points in three of the first four grands prix, di Resta came within laps of even putting his VJM06 on the podium at the last race in Bahrain.

Such is Fernley's faith in the 27-year-old that he believes he could one day walk away with a World title if given the opportunity.

"Absolutely, there is no reason why he and a number of others would not have as well, but certainly Paul could," the Deputy Team Principal told Sky Sports F1.

"Probably at least 50 per cent of the drivers on the grid today, given the right car and package, would be a World Champion, because they are some quality drivers."

However, di Resta is not the only Force India driver doing well this season as the returning Adrian Sutil has also shown some good pace, even running at the front in Australia.

"It is the perfect scenario for us," Fernley added.

"The idea of bringing Adrian in was that it would be as seamless as possible as to what had been happening between Paul and Nico and Paul and Adrian.

"In 2011 when Paul and Adrian were fighting each other, it was equally close, but what we wanted to do was keep the pressure on Paul actually because each driver needs to be performing at their limit.

"They need to give us quite a tough time and we have to set it up that they are having a tough time."
