Pirelli to test prototype hard tyres

Pirelli will give all the teams an opportunity to use the prototype hard tyres during practice at the British Grand Prix.

The Formula One teams were originally given the prototype to test during Friday practice for the Spanish Grand Prix, but no significant running was done when the session was hit by rain.

The tyre resembles the 2012 rubber and will be available during both sessions on Friday at Sivlerstone.

"This is in order to give the teams the chance to test this new compound on a different track to collect more data," said Pirelli boss Paul Hembery.

Pirelli also confirmed that the tyres will be on standby for the near future, the manufacturer ruled out racing with the Kevlar-belted tyres before the Belgian GP.

Hembery added that teams are still likely to see multiple pit stops during Sunday's race, despite the relative conservative decision to bring the medium and hard compounds to Silverstone.

"Last year we saw a two-stop strategy in dry conditions after two wet days but this year the compounds are softer, so if it stays dry we could have between three and four stops," Hembery continued.

"We should be in a position to make a more precise forecast after free practice."
