Bernie: Pirelli free to do two tests

F1 surpremo Bernie Ecclestone says Pirelli will be allowed to conduct two tyre tests, but a report claims no discussions have taken place yet.

Pirelli has once again copped a lot of flak after four different drivers suffered left-rear tyre blowouts during Sunday's British Grand Prix.

The FIA has already confirmed it will meet with the Italian manufacturer on Wednesday but the president of motorsport's governing body, Jean Todt, has called for calm in the wake of the Silverstone drama.

The F1 fraternity, though, is eager to sort out the tyre woes as soon as possible and Ecclestone claims Pirelli has been given the go-ahead to conduct two unrestricted three-day tyre tests.

"[Pirelli] have said they'd like to sort it out, but they don't have a chance to do any testing because of these bloody silly restrictions we have," Ecclestone told Press Association, "But I spoke to Jean Todt over the weekend and he has said 'let them test'.

"He has allowed them to run two three-day tests between now and... well, when they want, to try and do something for next year, as well as this year, so that's exactly what's going to happen."

He added: "They can use what they like. No restrictions. None at all, so they can do what they want."

While Ecclestone is confident the tests will take place soon, Sky Sports News revealed that 'one team source that no discussions have yet taken place about such tests taking place'.
