F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that the F1 circus "probably" will not return to India next season.
The Buddh International Circuit played host to its inaugural Formula One grand prix in 2011 with the sporting returning in 2012 and scheduled to do so again this October.
However, that may be the last visit.
"Is India going to happen next year? Probably not," Ecclestone told Reuters.
Pressed as to what the problem was, he said: "Very political."
High local tax is proving to be one of the bureaucratic issues facing the grand prix, however, Jaypee spokesman Askari Zaidi is hoping that a solution will be found.
"We have not got anything in writing from the Formula One management regarding the status of the 2014 Indian Grand Prix," Zaidi said.
"We are keen that Formula One races take place in India at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) till our contract is in operation that is 2015."
