No Red Bull move for Raikkonen

Tuesday 20-August-2013 08:34

Red Bull won't have a dream line-up of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel in 2014 after the Finn's manager confirmed he won't be heading to Milton Keynes.

Raikkonen was initially favourite to replace the retiring Mark Webber at the end of the season, but his manager Steve Robertson has revealed talks with Red Bull ended a while ago.

"The negotiations with Red Bull were not successful and ended some time ago," Robertson told Finland's Turun Sanomat.

He added on Autosport: "It's true. Kimi will not be driving for Red Bull in 2014. We held some talks, but a deal will not be happening."

Raikkonen's deal with Lotus runs out at the end of the year and he has been linked with a move back to Ferrari and Robertson has admitted they have "options".

"We are pretty confident that Kimi will be in F1 next year," he explained. "There are options - and that is plural - out there and I will continue to talk to teams. I am hopeful we will sort something out in the not too distant future."

Red Bull have confirmed in recent days that they will announce Webber's replacement at the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend and it is believed Toro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo will get the nod.

Ricciardo and his Toro Rosso team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne as well as Raikkonen were on Red Bull boss Christian Horner's initial shortlist, but Frenchman Vergne fell by the wayside quite early on.

It then appeared to be a straight race between Ricciardo and Raikkonen until Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso entered the fray at Hungary, but those reports have also gone quiet in recent days.

With Raikkonen now also out of the running, Ricciardo is now expected to be confirmed as Vettel's team-mate for the 2014 season.
