Luca insists Massa will play team role

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has dismissed suggestions that Felipe Massa won't play a supporting role for Fernando Alonso for the rest of the season.

Massa is looking for a new drive for the 2014 season after the Italian stable opted to replace him with Kimi Raikkonnen, and the Brazilian has been quoted as saying that he will be "driving for himself" for the rest of the season.

"I will not race for Alonso from now on," he told Brazil's Globo. "From Friday in Singapore I'll be working for myself. I will attack all the time, every lap. The time has come to look after myself."

However, Ferrari chief di Montezemolo has made it clear that Massa will be expected to give his team-mate "a hand" in the final seven races of the season.

"They say he won't help Fernando? Please!" he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"He will definitely do so, giving us a hand for the Constructors' and Alonso for the Drivers'."

Di Montezemolo has also described Massa as an ""exceptional guy and a wonderful person" but added his inconsistency cost him his seat, saying: "In 2012, we felt the lack of his points in the Constructors' [Championship]."
