Kvyat denies buying Toro Rosso seat

Daniil Kvyat has denied reports that he bought his way into a 2014 Toro Rosso race-seat.

Earlier this week the team confirmed that the 19-year-old Russian would join the Formula One grid next season, partnering Jean-Eric Vergne.

The announcement came as a surprise to many as Portuguese driver Antonio Felix da Costa was believed to be the favourite to join Toro Rosso.

And, as to be expected, it sparked reports that Toro Rosso had been swayed by Kvyat's financial backers.

The GP3 driver, though, denied this.

"To come into Formula 1, especially with Toro Rosso, all that matters are the results and the characteristics of the driver," he told Championat.

"That is the only thing that guided the decision."

The Russian teenager, though, won't say no to a sponsor if there is common groud.

"The talks will take place, and I think if we could find someone with common ground, then we will sign an agreement.

"The main thing is that this is the partner, sponsor is the wrong definition.

"We are looking for partners - people who could provide support in a financial aspect and others who might get behind me.

"We are looking for a partner, it never hurts. May soon we will be able to make an announcement but is still far away."
