Magnussen rumours gain momentum

Rumours that Kevin Magnussen is off to McLaren are continuing with fresh claims that 'McLaren are seriously considering replacing Sergio Perez.'

The longer McLaren wait to confirm Perez for next season, the more the rumours about his pending axing grow.

In recent days McLaren's test driver Magnussen has been linked to the Mexican's seat with the BBC now claiming that the F1 team is "seriously considering replacing" him as a "series of unconvincing displays by Perez in his first year with the team have raised questions about whether he is up to the level demanded by McLaren."

The Beeb reports that "senior figures in McLaren believe Perez has proved this year that he does not have the skill-set to flourish under new rules that will add complexity to F1. They also question whether he is fast enough.

"McLaren recognise that Perez is not a long-term solution for them, but some in the team feel if that is the case they may as well get rid of him now."

Enter Magnussen.

McLaren believe the son of former F1 driver Jan Magnussen has the potential to be a future F1 World Champion and could be the future of McLaren.

"If the team signed Magnussen," the BBC continued, "they would then be able to choose between him and Button as Alonso's team-mate for 2015 if they were successful in tempting the Spaniard away from Ferrari."

As for Magnussen, the Formula Renault 3.5 Champ, says he has what it takes.

"If I get the chance with a big team then it would be because they expect me to deliver and only because they think I am the right solution," he said.

"I feel I'm ready. I have won in everything I have driven in so why would that change in Formula 1?"
