Magnussen unfazed by comparison

Kevin Magnussen says being compared to Lewis Hamilton, the last rookie McLaren put in their car, is not adding to the pressure.

Entering Formula One in 2007 with McLaren, Hamilton immediately signalled his arrival on the big stage when he claimed a podium finish in his debut race in Australia.

That was the start of a run of nine top-three results that included victories in Canada and America.

Adding two more wins and another podium to his tally, Hamilton finished his debut campaign in second place, just one point behind Championship winner Kimi Raikkonen.

Next season McLaren will run yet another debutant, this time in 21-year-old Danish driver Magnussen.

As to be expected, many are wondering if next year's rookie can match the 2007 rookie's achievements.

Magnussen, though, says he is unfazed by the comparisons.

"The fact that Lewis did exactly what I'm doing now is a positive for me," he said.

"It shows that the team has been there before, and has already prepared a rookie for his grand prix debut.

"The fact that Lewis was so successful doesn't raise the pressure for me, it just shows that it can be done, and that you can be successful as a rookie.

"That's really encouraging."
