Kubica wins personality gong

Robert Kubica's remarkable recovery from a near fatal accident continues with the former F1 driver receiving the FIA Personality of the Year award.

The Pole and his supporters feared the worst for his racing future as he suffered a partially severed right hand as well as several other injuries in a high-speed rally crash a few season back.

Although he has given up hope of returning to F1, he has made comeback to motorsport as he entered in the second tier of the World Rally Championship this year, winning it at the first attempt and there is talk that he could move up to the main series in 2014.

Kubica won recognition for his achievement from the FIA as he beat the likes of four-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel, World Rally Champion Sebastien Ogier and Red Bull principal Christian Horner to the 'Personality of the Year' gong.

There was some reward for Ogier though as he and Volkswagen co-driver Julien Ingrassia won the FIA's new 'Moment of the Year' award, chosen by followers of the FIA's Facebook page from a shortlist of 12 videos that did not feature any Formula One races.
