The Art of Formula One

Many artists have been drawn to capture the sport of Formula One on canvas; seduced by the glamour, speed, colours and diversity of race locations. One such artist is Irish digital-media specialist; PJ Tierney. PJ's collection of bold race location-based artwork has made its way to hundreds of F1 fan's walls over the past few years.

PJ developed a passion for art from a young age and studied at the Limerick School of Art and Design. It was shortly after he graduated that he set himself the challenge of designing a poster every day for a month and used the F1 race calendar as his muse. He shared his progress on Twitter and soon developed a large fan base. PJ wanted to integrate Formula One into the flags of each race country. His trickiest image to create, yet ultimately his favourite, was Great Britain; where he integrated the shape of the Silverstone Wing into the Union Jack.

The best-seller in PJ's collection has been his 'full-season' design which integrates small versions of his race location artwork into a collage; ranked by the order that the 2012 races took place. His works have been shipped far afield to Japan and Hawaii and purchased by F1 teams themselves. PJ is proud to own one of his posters signed by VIPs from the Lotus team - old and new; Kimi Raikkonen, Romain Grosjean, Jackie Stewart and Eric Boullier but he won't be selling this one!

There is one poster in PJ's collection which has sadly never sold; his New Jersey F1 race image. PJ created this design in anticipation of the race occurring. As an avid F1 fan himself, he hopes that the New Jersey race will go ahead as planned in 2015 to continue progress of the sport in the USA.

Sadly, PJ is retiring his F1 art collection at the end of 2013. He has found a new passion for a full-time role; working with Konami Europe managing their European community and feels that the design changes to the 2014 cars will render his artworks out-of-date.

PJ's artworks are exclusively available to purchase from Memento Exclusives until December 31st this year when they will be retired into F1 art history. See the full PJ Tierney collection and brighten your walls for the New Year in the Memento Exclusives shop.
