Pirelli: Nothing to worry about

Pirelli says there is no cause for concern following Nico Rosberg's tyre blow-out during testing in Bahrain.

Mercedes' run at the tyre test was brought to a premature end on Thursday after Rosberg suffered the nasty scare.

The German tweeted that the full speed, 320km/h blow-out had left him needing to "get some toilet paper", but later deleted the message from his Twitter account.

Pirelli have subsequently released a statement saying the tyres used by Rosberg were a prototype that will not be used during the 2014 season.

The statement reads: "The tyre tests in Bahrain regarded a number of prototypes, which were completely innovative in terms of structure and compounds, with the aim of developing the most suitable solutions for the next season.

"This morning Nico Rosberg's Mercedes was fitted with one of these prototypes, a tyre which had only been tested in the laboratory and which will not be proposed again.

"Thus, the safety of the tyres which will be supplied for the next Championship is not in question.

"The accident which happened to Rosberg's car is being investigated and the findings will be communicated to the FIA and the teams."

The three-day Pirelli test at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain started on Tuesday, with Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes and Toro Rosso all taking part.

Data generated from the test is confidential.
