Kvyat relishing 2014 opportunity

Toro Rosso rookie Daniil Kvyat believes the 2014 season will provide the 'middle' teams with an opportunity to upset their big-spending rivals.

Although the 19-year-old Russian stopped short of setting specific targets for his debut season in Formula One after a successful GP3 career, he was confident of impressing for Red Bull's junior team.

"I think you should always push to the maximum and see what comes of it," he told Russian television TV Rain.

"But I do believe that we have a good chance to fight for top positions, especially in a year when the regulations are changing so much.

"The middle teams will have the chance to get ahead, and I really hope they do."

Kvyat's promotion by Red Bull over the more experienced Antonio Felix da Costa has been a hot topic of discussion, with some critics suggesting that his recruitment serves to placate Russian sponsors ahead of the country's maiden Grand Prix this year.

"Of course we are always open to negotiations with any sponsors. It is a long process and not so easy," he continued.

"If there are interesting proposals we would consider them, as sponsors from Russia are very welcome."
