Di Montezemolo: Time for Ferrari to win

Sunday 26-January-2014 05:31

Luca di Montezemolo says after a "year to forget", the time has come for Ferrari to return to winning ways.

Last season, Fernando Alonso was again not able to bring to end to Sebastian Vettel's reign and the Ferrari driver had to settle for second.

It was the third time in four years that the Spaniard lost out to the Red Bull racer.

This season, Ferrari are determined to make amends and have brought in Kimi Raikkonen to help Alonso achieve Ferrari's goal of winning the titles.

"I'm confident because I think we have a strong team, and I think we have all the ingredients to be a successful," di Montezemolo said.

"[We have] two very strong drivers; I'm pleased to have Kimi back because Kimi has been the last driver to win the Championship with us, and Fernando has made fantastic seasons achieving second place in [three of] the last four years."

"Now, it is time to win."

Speaking at the launch of the new F14T, the first car influenced by new technical director James Allison who joined Ferrari last season from Lotus, di Montezemolo says he has every confidence that Ferrari will get it right.

However, in light of the new regulations, he concedes that not only will reliability be key but it also won't be a routine start to the Championship.

"I have a lot of confidence in new technical director James Allison and in the work that our people have made [with] the engine.

"It's a very complicated engine, a very complicated system - and I think that particularly at the beginning of the season reliability will be crucial.

"Whenever we have new rules, it is always difficult from the beginning to find out who is competitive and who is less competitive, but our goal is to be on the top and so we have to do our best.

"I have seen all our people be very conscious of this, very focused, and we will approach the first test with all our determination.

"We have to give our drivers, not only a competitive car, but also a competitive team and [team principal Stefano] Domenicali has made some innovations in the team.

"I am very confident."
