Massa 'happier than expected'

Friday 31-January-2014 11:56

Having made the move to Williams in the off-season, Felipe Massa has revealed that it is going better than expected.

The Brazilian bid farewell to Ferrari at the end of last year and moved to Williams where he hopes to revive the team's flagging fortunes.

"I am happy with the change I made, it was in the direction that I expected," he told Autosport.

"Williams is a professional team, a team that can do a very good job in F1. It is a team that is not there to fight at the back but at the front.

"It is something that makes me even happier than I expected."

Massa made his Williams debut at the Jerez circuit on Thursday, putting in 47 laps in the new FW36.

It was a flying start for the 32-year-old who clocked the day's second fastest time, a 1:23.700.

However, the day was not without its problems as Massa revealed there were "little" issues that cost him track time.

"We didn't do as many laps as we expected to do, because unfortunately many times you have little issues that it takes a lot of time to change and to go out but I would say it is pretty normal.

"I think other people are struggling more than what we are struggling, but I am happy with things.

"I am happy with the first feeling, the first impression with the team, the first feeling of driving the car, the engine, the car itself, the tyres, gearbox, everything. And I am really happy."
