Bernie expects case to be dropped

Sunday 09-February-2014 06:18

Bernie Ecclestone is confident that it is only a matter of time before charges against him in Germany are dropped.

At present the Formula One supremo is facing a trial in Munich where he has been charged with bribery and, if found guilty, could spend time in jail.

The charges relate to the sale of F1 to CVC during which Ecclestone is alleged to have paid former German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky a bribe of $45m.

Gribkowsky is currently serving an eight-and-a-half year sentence for accepting said bribe and other crimes.

A trial date has been set for Ecclestone's case, which is expected to begin on 24 April.

However, the 83-year-old believes it will be thrown out of court before it even gets underway.

"Bet you it doesn't happen," was his response when BBC Sport asked him about the trial.

"Things happen in life and you have to get on with it."
