Williams tipped for resurgence

Formula One's new regulations could play into the hands of past champions Williams, according to Antonio Pizzonia.

Formula One has undergone a major overhaul ahead of this year's Championship which many expect could shake up the grid.

Already there were some surprises - and some shocks - in the opening pre-season test which ended with Williams quickest on the final day.

New signing Felipe Massa set the pace on Day Four while his 1:23.700 from the previous day saw him finish second quickest overall for the week.

"Look at their history, this is a team that can win," Pizzonia, who contested nine races for Williams in 2004 and 2005, told Motorsport Magazin.

"They have always tried to get young people into the factory, which is great for the future, but I think we can now see a great improvement."

As for the reasons why Williams dropped from Championship contenders to backmarkers, Pizzonia added: "There were relationship problems with BMW, the team lost competent people and there was the financial side with the loss of strong sponsors."

He added: "I hope we will see a turnaround and the team improve again."
