Symonds hails 'hungry' Massa

Tuesday 11-March-2014 09:40

Williams chief technical officer Pat Symonds has hailed Felipe Massa's impact on the squad, and he believes there's more to come from the Brazilian.

With Ferrari deciding to replace him with Kimi Raikkonen for the 2014 season, Massa opted to join Williams and he adapted pretty quickly to life at Grove during pre-season testing, much to the team's delight.

"He is superb," Symonds told Autosport. "I didn't know exactly what to expect because I didn't know him particularly well before he joined Williams, but he is great.

"He is very quick, which we knew and he provides good concise feedback without any airs and graces, it's just 'this is what's happening'."

At 32 years old, Massa appears to be the twilight of his career, but Williams believe he still has plenty to offer, both in terms of his performances on the track and helping team-mate Valtteri Bottas.

"I noticed that when we first spoke to him, that he was hungry," said Symonds.

"He has got unfinished business and he will thoroughly enjoy trying to finish some of that off."

He added: "He's a fabulous team player and such a charming person. He was there every day we were testing, even when he wasn't driving, as was Valtteri.

"They are both working hard and wanting to push things forward.

"Felipe is just part of the regeneration of the team believing in itself again."
