Bernie: No simple solution to noise

Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed Mercedes are supporting F1's plans to increase noise levels even though it could negate their advantage.

Mercedes have dominated this year's Championship, taking three pole positions and three race wins - including back-to-back 1-2 finishes - on their way to a 67-point lead in the Championship.

But while Mercedes are undoubtedly loving this year's new regulations, many fans are not.

Having voiced their unhappiness, Formula one has paid attention and announced in Bahrain that steps would be taking to up the volume.

Ecclestone, though, has warned that it won't be a quick fix.

Speaking to Autosport, he said: "We are working on this to see what we can do. If we knew what to do, we would do it. It is as simple as that.

"It is not any one person who can decide. We have this group now that can sort this out. But at the moment no one knows what to do."

The F1 supremo also revealed that Championship leaders Mercedes were behind the plans.

He added: "The good thing is that the people that could be anti, and say we don't want to do anything or don't want to talk about anything, we are not interested because they have the best unit - they are the first people to say we will do whatever we can do.

"They are working on it seriously. And don't worry - it will be done."
