McLaren factory proving its worth

Tuesday 22-April-2014 13:25

The McLaren factory has produced the downforce improvements the Formula One team requires to move up the grid, it revealed on Tuesday.

After a disappointing Chinese Grand Prix, where McLaren drivers Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen were well off the pace and finished outside the points scoring positions, it has become clear that the MP4-29 in its current guise didn't have the downforce to compete at the front of the grid consistently.

On Tuesday, however, McLaren Racing Director Eric Boullier revealed that the factory has made significant progress with upgrades in recent weeks, although it may take a few races for all the parts to be manufactured and delivered.

"This is 100 per cent sure because we know already back in the factory what is going to happen in the next three or four races," Boullier told Autosport when asked if the upgrades would improve McLaren enough to compete at the front end of the grid.

"I know what is going on, so I know we are on a very good development rate.

"What we picked up now since a few weeks is good. Very good.

"I hope it is going to come sooner than later. In the windtunnel already we have picked up a lot of performance.

"Back in the factory it is fine. It is just a question of preparing everything and shipping it to the track."
