McLaren our only customer - Honda

Wednesday 23-April-2014 08:53

Honda have revealed that McLaren will be the only team that will be supplied with power units in the 2015 season, although the Japanese manufacturer haven't ruled out additional customers thereafter.

Honda and McLaren revealed almost 12 months ago that their partnership - which had previously won four consecutive Constructors' Championship titles - will be renewed next year.

"McLaren is our only customer. I don't think about the future, because we want to concentrate on next season," Honda motorsport boss Yasuhisa Arai told Sky Sports News at last week's Chinese Grand Prix.

"Of course we want to have good results next season and see the results from other manufacturers. Please choose our power unit for next season.

"If teams want to use our engine or power unit, we can deliver after year 2016 but right now there are no plans."

As part of their re-entry into Formula One, Honda will also open a base in Europe for the first time since 2008, which will open in Milton Keynes in two months' time.

"That, we will open June this year," Arai added.

"Now still under construction but that factory is to do the engine maintenance for the races and rebuilding the Formula One engine and also to go to the race-track for the trackside service."

The Milton Keynes facility will be responsible for maintaining the power units, but they will be designed and built at the Honda Research and Development facility in Tochigi, Japan.
