Hamilton not keen on Rosberg battles

After a thrilling battle for first position between the Mercedes team-mates in Bahrain last month, Lewis Hamilton admitted that he would prefer to not be involved in such a race again this year.

Hamilton has beaten his team-mate Nico Rosberg in the last three races, but at Sakhir last month he fought off a strong challenge from the German.

The Brit added that the Bahrain battle spurred him on even further during the Chinese Grand Prix two weeks later.

"Nico will be massively quick at every race we go to," Hamilton told Autosport.

"I was determined to make sure that in China we were not close, like we were at the last race [in Bahrain]. It was definitely feeling a bit more like it was in Malaysia.

"I am going to keep on working and keep with the approach I have, because it is working perfectly for me."

Even though Hamilton is a big favourite with bookmakers like Paddy Power to win this week in Bacelona, he expects Rosberg to be his strongest challenger in Catalunya.

"He is still leading the championship, isn't he?" he continued.

"In sports, it is all a psychological game.

"So of course, getting good results you cannot measure what effect that has on people. But I know how positive it is on me."

The Brit added that Rosberg isn't necessarily his only challenger for the title, particularly since Red Bull and Ferrari seem to be getting to grips with their car ahead of the European season.

"There are so many races to go, so you cannot predict what is going to happen," he said.

"Ferrari took a big step [in China]."

Nevertheless, Mercedes seem to be a class apart this year and look a sure bet to win the Constructors' Championship.

"They are not the same pace as us, but to go from 10th [in Bahrain] to be third is quite impressive," Hamilton continued.

"Renault will also improve their engine for next race. We cannot stand still. We have to keep improving, and I am sure we will."
