Massa expected Kimi to struggle

Felipe Massa admitted that he isn't at all surprised to see Kimi Raikkonen consistently out-performed by Fernando Alonso so far this season.

Alonso secured Ferrari's only podium so far this year and out-qualified the Finn in four of the year's six races. After finishing ahead of his team-mate in each of the season's six races so far, Alonso leads Raikkonen by 44 points in the Drivers' Championship standings and is nine places ahead of the Finn.

Although few expected Raikkonen to win this year's title, his poor results in the season's first six races has already seen him drop to the long odds of 500/1 to win the title at bookies Paddy Power.

During an interview with Autosport after last week's Monaco Grand Prix, Massa said that Raikkonen will continue to struggle to match Alonso for the foreseeable future.

"For me, the difference between Fernando and Kimi is not a surprise," Massa told Autosport.

"I expected it because Fernando has built a team around him, and also the way he is driving.

"He is a very strong driver and he managed to put everything on his side as well.

"I think to be better than him you need to be perfect with the car and I think Kimi is not maybe 100 per cent ready and perfect with the car," Massa added, suggesting that it is a sure bet that Alonso will continue to dominate in the Ferrari garage.

"And Fernando also has the team for him, so it's not easy."
