'Bulls will keep fighting, keep pushing'

Thursday 12-June-2014 07:08

Having outscored Mercedes for the first time this season in Canada, Christian Horner says Red Bull will keep fighting to close the gap.

Last Sunday in Montreal, Daniel Ricciardo recorded the first victory of his Formula 1 career when he beat Nico Rosberg to the chequered flag.

Added to that his team-mate Sebastian Vettel was third across the line, bringing Red Bull's tally for the Canadian GP up to 40 points.

With Mercedes netting just 18, it was the first time in seven grands prix that Red Bull narrowed the deficit to the runaway Championship leaders.

"We've taken 40 points - it's the first time we've outscored Mercedes - and that is great news in view of Red Bull's home race the Austrian Grand Prix in two weeks," Horner told Reuters.

"We're going to have a lot of home support. There's still a gap to Mercedes, we are working on closing that down.

"But when you consider where we were three months ago in pre-season testing to where we are now, it is quite incredible.

"We'll keep fighting, keep pushing and hopefully we can continue to close that gap."

The next stop on the calendar is Red Bull's home grand prix as Austria returns to the schedule with the race taking place at the renamed Red Bull Ring.

And although the team boss admits that ramps up the pressure, he says Red Bull will be pushing hard to achieve the most they can.

"To have a race at the Red Bull Ring as Red Bull Racing - with that comes a bit of pressure but it will be fantastic to perform in front of effectively a home crowd.

"They sold out within a matter of hours a colossal amount of tickets and I think it is going to be a huge spectacle. For us as a team it will be trying to get the most out of that weekend as we can."
