Haas 'dreams' of signing Danica

Gene Haas says that while Danica Patrick would be his "dream" driver, that doesn't mean she is a realistic option.

Haas will enter Formula 1 in 2016 and already there's a lot of talk about the American team's potential line-up.

Having stated several times that he would like to race an American and especially an American female, former Indy racer Patrick has emerged as the most likely candidate to fill that criteria.

"Danica Patrick in one of our cars would be the dream driver," he said in an interview with the official F1 website.

When it was pointed out that the NASCAR driver would be 34 when Haas' F1 team makes it debut in 2016, he responded: "The question was about the dream driver! But she surely fits the bill.

"She is a woman in a man's sport - that would attract a lot of attention.

"She weighs about 50 kilos - which these day sounds fantastic - so indeed she's got a lot of attributes that would be good to have."

Asked if he would 'definitely' look for a woman driver, he admitted that while he would, it may not be a realistic option.

"Definitely," he said. "But realistically the first driver is going to be a current F1 driver who knows the ins and outs of the sport, to help us sort out what we have to do and who can give a lot of feedback.

"In that mould would be driver number one. Driver number two would be American."
