Red Bull 'prepared' for life after Newey

Wednesday 18-June-2014 07:18

Red Bull may have been "built around" Adrian Newey but Helmet Marko is adamant they will prosper even when he steps back.

This season will be Newey's last leading Red Bull's design team as, even though he recently signed a new multi-year contract, the Brit will be taking a back seat next season.

Instead of focusing on Formula 1, the 55-year-old will concentrate on projects outside the sport while still being on hand in an "advisory and mentoring" role.

This has raised some questioned about how Red Bull will cope without their design guru, who joined in 2006 and was instrumental in their run of Championship doubles from 2010 to 2013.

Marko insists the reigning World Champions are "prepared" for Newey's departure.

Speaking to the BBC, he said: "We will do whatever is necessary.

"The team was built around Adrian but we have a group of really good people and are prepared for the challenge."

He did, however, admit that re-organising "won't be easy" but added "that's why we are here."

And as Red Bull approach their first race weekend at their own track in Austria, the Red Bull Ring, Marko has reiterated that the energy drink company is committed to Formula 1 for the "long term".

He added: "If our whole team was not full of passion, we wouldn't have success."
