Force India deputy team principal Bob Fernley believes McLaren made a mistake to get rid of Sergio Perez after just one season.
McLaren signed Perez for the 2013 campaign on the back of some impressive displays for Sauber, but he lasted only one year with the Woking squad opting to replace him with rookie Kevin Magnussen.
The Mexican struggled during the first few months at McLaren, but improved during the latter half of the season and Force India decided to snap him up on the back of that. The 24-year-old has settled quickly at the Silverstone squad, claiming one podium in eight races.
When asked by Autosport if McLaren underrated Perez, Fernley replied: "I think they did, perhaps they should have given him another year.
"Based on his second half of last year, which is what we judged when we looked to sign him, I think he did a wonderful job.
"I wasn't overly impressed about the first six months, but I thought the second part was wonderful and that's what convinced us he was right."
