Grosjean 'open' to leaving Lotus

Friday 04-July-2014 08:09

Romain Grosjean is still dreaming of winning races and becoming a World Champion and he won't hesitate to leave Lotus to realise that goal.

After battling for victories and podiums during his first two seasons with Lotus, the Frenchman has found life a lot more difficult this campaign as the Enstone squad have had a poor run so far.

Instead of mixing it up front, Grosjean has picked up just eight points as he has often found himself battling just to get into the top 10.

Team owner Gerard Lopez has already admitted it would be difficult to hang onto the 28-year-old services and Grosjean has now also revealed he will consider his options at the end of this campaign.

"You always think about the future," the Frenchman said. "I've been here (with Lotus) for a little bit and I know the team very well. On the other hand I want to win races as well, so things are open.

"You tend to always think the grass of the neighbour is greener than yours - sometimes it is, sometimes not. With everything there is a risk, whether you change engine, change team. We take risks every day we run the car. That is part of the job.

"What I really want is to win my first grand prix and try to become a World Champion, and that's what I'm going to focus on. I miss fighting for podiums and I miss drinking champagne on a Sunday afternoon. That's what I want - what all of us want - but when you taste it once you want to taste it for a long time."
