Bianchi ready if needed by Ferrari

Wednesday 09-July-2014 09:54

Jules Bianchi insists he will be ready to stand in for Kimi Raikkonen should he be required to do so in Germany.

The Frenchman tested for Marussia at Silverstone on Tuesday, but he will replace Raikkonen in the Ferrari on Wednesday as the Finn is sitting out the test following his heavy shunt at the British GP.

Although the Italian outfit are confident the 2007 World Champion will be fit for duty at Hockenheim in just over a week, Bianchi says he will step up to the plate if he's needed.

"Of course, I am in Formula 1 so I feel ready for everything," he told Sky Sports Online.

"At the moment I am racing for Marussia and I just want to do my job for them, I am really happy with what we are doing at the moment, I feel ready."

Bianchi has previous experience of having to juggle testing duties and he believes it is all part of his development.

"I did it in 2012 when I jumped from Ferrari to Force India," he added. "It is good experience and it is what I need to grow up so I am really pleased with that."

The 24-year-old has already played a major role in helping Marussia to move forward this year as he secured a career-best P9 for the team in Monaco.

They are currently ninth in the standings on the back of that result, but now the aim is to stay ahead of Sauber until the end of the season.

"At the moment they are quicker than us so we are doing our best to catch them, but it is not easy," he said.

"We are still in front of them in the Championship, but our target is to be in front of Caterham. If we can also be in front of Sauber for sure it would be good, but at the moment it is not our target."
