Dan excited about Vettel's resurgence

Wednesday 09-July-2014 12:47

Daniel Ricciardo is hoping that Sebastian Vettel's return to form is permanent as he believes it will bring out the best in both of them.

Red Bull fans were no doubt eyeing a more intense team-mate battle between Vettel and Ricciardo further up the grid this season, but while the latter has impressed in his debut campaign with the team, the reigning World Champion has been well off the pace.

Vettel, though, has shown glimpses of the form he is capable of at Silverstone last time out when he produced an excellent last lap in qualifying to start P2. He then followed it up with a P5 by holding off Fernando Alonso from Ferrari.

Ricciardo, who enjoys a 28-point lead over the German in the standings, is eager for a straight fight with his team-mate.

"I don't know if the word is improve - because he's already very good - but I'm sure his form, or whatever people are going to call it, is going to come, or it has come," Ricciardo told ESPNF1.

"In Germany I think he's going to be very hungry and show that he's ready to take it on. For me it's just to keep trying to improve, keep doing what I'm doing. Obviously I'm excited if there's a bit more in him because I think that will bring out a bit more in both of us."

Most of Red Bull's problems this season have been down to the performance of their Renault engine, but Ricciardo is confident they will get to the bottom of things.

"We are constantly trying to find more. We're not going to find tonnes of horsepower overnight so all the improvements we get will be subtle," he said. "As a driver the subtle stuff is harder to feel, but I think on the data it will show soon."
