Bottas aiming to beat 'the best'

Thursday 24-July-2014 08:35

Valtteri Bottas is keen to add his name to Formula 1's list of Finnish World Champions, saying that is "the target."

Promoted to race driver for the 2013 season, Bottas had a miserable time as Williams failed to find any form.

This season, though, has been a very different story as the team has turned its flagging fortunes around and Bottas has benefitted

He has used two front row grid slots to achieve podium finishes while also proving his racing skill as he turned a P14 on the British GP grid into a top three finish.

With a trio of podium results under his belt, Bottas is now dreaming of the big one with the odds improving on his chances of winning a World title.

The 24-year-old said: "In Formula One it's never easy. The level is really high.

"There are so many great drivers, a number of World Champions on the grid, so trying to be the best is not easy, but that's the goal.

"What you need to do to achieve that is to keep learning, developing, and hopefully I've a long career ahead of me, so time to improve as a driver.

"That's the target, like it has always been race by race. You just need to try and keep improving in all areas."

He added: "My main aim is to be World Campion. It's always been. Nothing less is enough.

"Williams is a team definitely going the right way. It's the goal for all of us together to be World Champions, and it would be really great to achieve that with them."

Looking ahead to this weekend's race at the Hungaroring, where he is a firm favourite with Paddy Power to reach the podium, ottas is hoping for a good showing at the closest race he has to a home grand prix.

"There are always a few fans from Finland, it's almost like a Finnish GP, so I hope to pay the fans back with a good result," he said.
