Kimi: It's been tough, but that's life

Monday 04-August-2014 10:21

In typical fashion, Kimi Raikkonen has shrugged off his struggles in the first half of the season, saying "that's life".

On the back of two excellent years with Lotus, Raikkonen moved back to Ferrari on a two-year contract, but it hasn't been a happy homecoming to Maranello so far for the Finn.

While his team-mate Fernando Alonso has scored 115 points to lie fourth in the standings after 11 races, Raikkonen is down in 12 with only 27 points.

Despite his woes, the 2007 World Champion believes he hasn't lost any of the speed that made him one of the standout drivers in 2013 with Lotus.

"It's been a difficult year but that's life," the 34-year-old is quoted as saying by Autosport.

"It's not fun when you have hard times but it's happened before and that's how it goes.

"We try to make things better all the time, make fewer mistakes, and get the car where I want it to be to be fast again.

"I know I haven't suddenly lost over the winter a few seconds of laptime."

The Hungarian Grand Prix was one of mixed emotions for the Finn as he had a nightmare Saturday after being knocked out in Q1, but then he produced his best performance of the season as he finished sixth.

Raikkonen admits he is yet to have a perfect weekend.

"It's a case of putting things in the right order for me," he said.

"Unfortunately we haven't managed to do it here and there.

"Sometimes we have one day, one practice, in some places where we are absolutely fine, but we're still fighting against things a lot and obviously then the results show where we end up."
