Sebastian Vettel has warned that the new Sochi circuit will be a "huge challenge" for drivers later this year.

FIA race director Charlie Whiting last week declared the Sochi Autodrom in "extremely good condition" and confirmed it will be granted a F1 license.

Four-time World Champion Vettel took it a step further this week by becoming the first F1 driver to sample the new track in Krasnodar Krai ahead of the inaugural Russian GP on October 12.

He and former Red Bull driver David Coulthard used an Infiniti road car to complete a couple of laps.

"Having driven the full circuit for the first time in the Infiniti Q50, it's an interesting layout with a good mix of high-speed corners and technical sections," Vettel said.

"It's going to be a huge challenge in a F1 car and I'm really looking forward to coming back in October."

The Sochi Autodrom was designed by Hermann Tilke, is 3.637-mile long and has 18 corners.
