Button: McLaren drivers key to market

Jenson Button believes he and team-mate Kevin Magnussen and not Fernando Alonso, as suggested by Romain Grosjean, are vital cogs in the 2014 driver market.

Lotus driver Grosjean, who has admitted he won't hesitate to leave Enstone at the end of this season in pursuit of glory, felt that the driver market will only become active once Alonso and Ferrari have sorted out their futures.

Alonso has been strongly linked with a return to McLaren, but the Spaniard earlier this weekend dismissed suggestions that he could leave the Maranello squad.

Asked for his view on the issue, Button is quoted as saying by "I know drivers say they don't read the press. We only don't read the press when you say something horrible about us, we pretend we don't read the press! That [Grosjean's suggestion] surprised me. I don't think he's the key to the driver market, the two McLaren drivers are probably the key to the driver market, I would say."

McLaren have admitted that they are uncertain about their line-up for next season, but Button is not too concerned about the speculation regarding Alonso.

"It doesn't change my cause. It doesn't change anything as he was always staying at Ferrari," he said.
