Kimi Raikkonen got the most out of his medium Pirellis as those around him faltered, taking the P1 slot in Practice Two in Bahrain.
Unlike in FP1, the afternoon session began with a mad dash out onto the track as the drivers quickly got down to work. The two McLarens have a brief stint at the front where Jenson Button and Sergio Perez traded blows before Mark Webber went quickest with a 1:34.664.
As the drivers continued on the harder option Pirelli tyres, Fernando Alonso, who was P2 in the morning, hit the front while Felipe Massa, Prac One's pace-setter, jumped to third place. Sebastian Vettel was fourth ahead of Lewis Hamilton and the two Force Indias.
After their first run there were several drivers unhappy with their cars. Giedo van der Garde told his Caterham team that he had "no traction" while Nico Rosberg said he had "too much understeer." But it was Perez who was up on jacks as his McLaren team worked on his splitter.
Next on the cards was the medium tyres runs with Webber immediately going quickest but only by a couple of tenths over Alonso. Vettel took second on his first lap on the option Pirellis while Alonso was third despite being a tenth up in the first sector.
However, one driver did succeed in finding over a second with his medium tyres and that was Raikkonen. The Finn shot up from 15th to first with a 1:34.154, which was 0.030s up Webber.
Following the medium charge some drivers reverted to the hard tyres although most remained on the mediums. They all, though, put in fuel in their cars. As a result they were lapping seconds off their earlier best and the timesheets remained unchanged through to the end.
The heavier runs brought the tyre degradation to the fore with drivers complaining of a severe drop off the longer they ran on a set of tyres. Raikkonen told his team after 13 laps on the mediums that they were "gone" while others also struggled as they put more laps on their tyres.
After 90 minutes the chequered flag waved with Raikkonen quickest ahead of Webber and Vettel.
