Kamui Kobayashi set the pace on a slow Friday morning at Spa which saw rain wash out the first half of Practice One.
Report: Cold and wet was the order of the morning as practice got underway at Spa with Kamui Kobayashi posting the first lap time of the day, a 2:17.705. However, with the rain bucketing down at the Belgian track most drivers opted for a single installation lap and a quick-as-possible drive back into the pits.
With half the session gone Kobayashi's name was the only one on the timesheets as rivers ran across the track and fans headed into the woods to found some shelter. Nico Hulkenberg clarified the situation, saying it is "not drivable" out there and "dangerous" at Eau Rouge.
The rain eased up with 40 minutes remaining with Daniel Ricciardo making his mark as he went quickest with a 2:14.520. The Toro Rosso driver's lap prompted others to venture out although not everyone was able to stay on the track in the wet conditions.
Jean-Eric Vergne was the next to lead the way before he was overhauled by Kobayashi. However, the Sauber driver cut the Les Combes corner to set his time, a trip his team-mate Sergio Perez. followed him on seconds later.
With 30 minutes remaining Ricciardo hit the front again relegating Kobayashi to second. Vergne was third ahead of Perez, Pastor Maldonado and Mark Webber. 11 drivers had set times.
Maldonado was the next to hit the front with a 2:11.941 but soon lost out to Kobayashi. The duo were unbeatable as the session wound down with Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher - who had a massive twitch through Eau Rouge - and Lewis Hamilton putting in some very late laps but no serious running. They were ninth, 10th and 15th respectively.
The session ended with 23 times on the board of which Championship leader Fernando Alonso just slipped in with one very late and slow lap time. His team-mate Felipe Massa had a late breakdown due to an engine failure.
