Lauda: The best I've ever seen

Monday 29-July-2013 10:27

Mercedes non-executive chairman Niki Lauda hailed Lewis Hamilton's Hungarian GP drive as the "best" he's ever seen.

Starting from pole position many expected the Mercedes driver would fall off the pace in the hot conditions as the track temperature reached a sweltering 51'C.

Instead, however, Hamilton dominated the 70-lap grand prix, leading the bulk of the laps while pulling off fantastic overtaking moves, including two on former team-mate Jenson Button, to work his way back up the order after pit stops.

Hamilton eventually won the Budapest race by 10 seconds ahead of Sebastian Vettel, his first race victory as a Mercedes driver.

"He won the race because he drove sensationally," Lauda told the Daily Mail.

"He was the best I've ever seen in my life - the way he passed people and the way he really got going.

"Generally we were not as quick as the Red Bull, but Lewis really made it all up especially the way he passed people."

The Austrian added: "He was outstanding."
