Rosberg: Merc should chase every 1-2

Nico Rosberg feels second in Montreal was not good enough for Mercedes as in the W05 they have a race-winning car.

The Mercedes W05 has been the car to beat in the first third of this year's Championship with Rosberg and team-mate Lewis Hamilton claiming the victory in the first six races.

Their run came to an end last weekend in Canada when ERS issues befell both drivers.

Robbed of the power needed to win, Rosberg had to settle for second behind Daniel Ricciardo while Lewis Hamilton's car troubles resulted in brake failure and a retirement.

"It is really not good because our car is fast enough to win every race," Rosberg told Autosport.

"So to go away from Canada without a win is a big disappointment for us as a team, all of us, and we need to bounce back in Austria.

"At the moment we need to try to finish 1-2 in every race with the car we have."

And even though Montreal was the first problem that the Championship leader has had on a Sunday, he has urged Mercedes to work harder on making the car "bulletproof."

"In hindsight, it was massive damage limitation coming second. It was lots of points and it was a decent day.

"But for the team it sucks, because our ambition is to do much better. To have reliability problems like that is not good.

"We need to be bulletproof and it is a work in progress. It is the first problem I have had - because we have been good with reliability.

"We have been good with reliability before, but we need to keep on going now and make sure it is 100 per cent - which of course is never easy."
