Ferrari pace concerns Domenicali

Tuesday 02-July-2013 13:38

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali is concerned by the team's pace ahead of this weekend's German Grand Prix.

The Maranello team has excelled at the high-speed circuits previously and Fernando Alonso was one of the pre-race favourites for the British Grand Prix, but could only qualify in 10th place.

While the Spaniard finished third and team-mate Felipe Massa in sixth despite suffering a tyre blow-out, their final position was aided by the late safety car that allowed them to close the gap on the cars in front of them.

With World Championship leader Sebastian Vettel not scoring any points, Alonso narrowed the gap at the top of the standings significantly, but Domenicali was concerned nonetheless.

"This weekend in terms of performance was not very good," Domenicali said.

"We need to understand in these two or three days at home why.

"There is something that I would say is bigger than little details that caused us not to be better at Silverstone.

"This is the most important thing that we have to work on - understand and recover the performance.

"We have seen that not only Red Bull now is strong, but Mercedes is very strong and they have solved their issue in terms of tyre degradation," he continued.

"Now, if we want to win the championship, and that's still the objective we have, we need to improve the car."
