Alonso confident of Ferrari recovery

Fernando Alonso is refusing to write off Ferrari's chances of winning this year's titles despite being trounced by Mercedes.

Although Ferrari entered this campaign talking of titles fight their performance has been anything but.

The team has yet claim a single podium finish, never mind a race win, while last time out in Bahrain Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen only just made it into the points.

But despite a disappointing Sunday night at the Sakhir circuit, the Ferrari driver is adamant his team is not out of the race.

"Although we did all we could, we can't be happy with our level of performance and now our sole focus must be on working day and night," he said.

"The season is in its early stages and I think we can stage a recovery. We have the resources and the potential to do it and it's all down to us."

The Spaniard, though, did concede to Autosport that it won't be easy chasing down Mercedes although insists it's not impossible either.

"Mercedes has been fantastic," he said. "They are doing a better job than anyone else and Nico and Lewis are driving fantastic, doing zero mistakes.

"We have had some difficult conditions with rain in qualifying, but they are doing zero mistakes, fighting but clean.

"At the moment it's not possible to catch them in this first part of the championship, but we saw Brawn GP dominate in the first part of the Championship and they struggled a bit at the end of the year."
