Fernley: P3 a bridge too far

Although Bob Fernley admits a top-three result in the Championship may be a "bridge too far", he believes anything can happen.

Six races into this year's Championship, Force India are holding down fourth place in the Constructors' Championship.

With one podium result to their tally, the team are 11 points behind Ferrari and 15 ahead of McLaren.

Determined to continue the impressive run of form, Fernley disclosed that Force India would be introducing another major round of updates at the British GP.

The deputy team boss, though, reckons fighting for a top-three result is probably too big a step for the team.

"I think it's probably a bridge too far but you never know," he told Autosport.

"We have still got upgrades coming in, so we will get the upgrades in at Silverstone and then reassess.

"You never want to give away opportunities and we won't stop fighting.

"Monaco was a very good weekend for us, we were really solid all weekend and exactly where we wanted to be - consolidating that fourth place."

He also ruled out Force India bringing an early end to development, something they did last season which cost them dearly.

"I don't think there is any point in stopping because next year's car is just an evolution of this year's.

"Anything you are investing on this year is going to apply for next year, so we will be developing all the way through the year."
