Hulkenberg aiming to go forward

Tuesday 05-August-2014 14:09

Nico Hulkenberg insists Force India are not going backwards despite their less than satisfactory finish to the first half of the season.

Hulkenberg regularly found himself battling in the top five during the first few races of the campaign while his team-mate Sergio Perez managed to secure a P3 in Bahrain.

However, both drivers found themselves scrapping for top 10 positions in Austria, Britain and German while they both failed to see the chequered flag in Hungary.

"It doesn't feel we are tailing off," Hulkenberg told Crash.net. "But we do need to ensure we keep updates coming and progress in the same way as other teams. Otherwise the threat is we will fall behind the other teams.

"But, yeah, maintain and hopefully make more steps in the right direction is the aim - that must be the aim."

While Perez already has a podium finish under his belt this campaign, Hulkenberg is still waiting to get onto the podium for Force India and he believes Singapore could be his best chance.

"Obviously in Bahrain a lot other people were still sorting out big issues engine wise, like Red Bull and that is all gone now. We still have an advantage there on the engine side, but not as big any more. So it is going to be more tricky [to get on the podium], but never say never," the German added.

"I think maybe Singapore [should be good for us] - it is quite low speed and normally low speed has been good for us."
