Perez's prospects looking brighter

Sergio Perez believes he is almost certain to be offered a Formula One seat for next year after he was axed by McLaren last week.

The Mexican was deemed surplus to requirements at McLaren one year after he was signed from Sauber as Lewis Hamilton's replacement.

Several seats are currently vacant ahead of the 2014 season, with Lotus, Force India and Sauber in the market for at least one new driver.

"My future is definitely looking better than it was seven days ago, so we have some progress in that respect, which is positive," Perez told Press Association Sport.

"But as we all know in Formula One, if you don't have a contract then there is nothing there, although I'm confident I will get a good seat that will keep me very motivated to achieve my dreams.

"Very high, I would say 95 per cent.

"But in Formula One to have the other five per cent is quite a lot. I might be here, I might not, but I'm pretty confident I will be here.

"There are some options, and one of them is going back to Sauber, but there are also other options we are looking at," he continued.

"Force India can be one, but we are not really deep in discussion. We are still a bit far away.

"But a few teams have not announced their drivers, so we are looking and seeing which will be the best option for my future.

"With Sauber, there are no issues between us, not at all. I always try and leave my teams on the best possible terms, as I am leaving McLaren.

"Life is very long and you never know where you're going to end up, so you have to try to be professional and a good person."
